MINUTES of 7/11/02 BoD Meeting
Board members present: Don G, Mathew M, Joe B, Savalas C, LaVerne R, Cyde S,
Wes T, Joe W, Rev. Williams, Peter T, Cece B.

#3 Welcome to Rev. Ron, Savalas, and Wes.
#4 Assembly discussion, deemed successful. 65 New memberships which brought in $483. 35 good ballots cast out of 37. Elected are: LaVerne recommended certificates of appreciation for outgoing board members for next year.
#5 Account Balance: $4850.00 A/O June 30th.
Some outstanding checks for assembly cost. Expenditure sheet passed around. Other payments: Mailbox for 1 yr, $180. YTD: Roughly $700 in new or renewed memberships, 125-150 active memberships. Website still gets 10 visits per day. We are crosslinked to the SM Mirror and OP Gazette
# 6 76 Station @ Pico/20th has applied for a carry out liquor licence. To be heard at the Planning Commission, possibly in the fall. PNA will oppose. Joe W will coordinate SMC opposition. Petitions have over 60 signatures to date.
Problems at Eddie's Market Pico/20th discussed. Letter inviting proprietor to the Sept PNA meeting to discuss matters will be drafted by Rev Ron, Wes, Mathew.
#7 Vacant lot on 18th/Delaware is owned by UC Regents (70%) and SMC (30%). Discussion on possible uses. Wes and Joe W to get status report form SMC.
# 8. Dialog is needed with police if progress is to be made on addressing reoccurring violence. As a start, Rev Ron will request 10 PN addresses with the most calls for service.
PNA will participate in the National Night Out parade. Banner to be made with message and design coordinated by Savalas and others.Meeting Adjourned 9:15

MINUTES AUG 8 2002, PNA BoD MEETING

# 3. No statement from the Bank this month. 2 new memberships. Only expenditures for the month were for Ameritech banner: $116.00, for the National Night Out parade.
# 4. Natl Night Out report: 5 of us were there. Discussion on "Project 365", which targets city areas of concern, and a proposal for the rotation of the march to different areas of the city was discussed. Motion to draft a letter with recommendation for next
year & ask candidates to support it. m/s/p Jim R/CeceB Yes 7
#5. Eddie's Market. Wes canvassed the market. Based on his research, some positive suggestions for improving the problem location included: larger poster removal, no loitering signage, better paint job, security guard with a good salary. Absentee owner
remains problem. Our leverage to obtain these changes might be CUP revocation.
#6. It was suggested that SMC's Tom Donner, and the SMC, and UC Regents, meet with us regarding empty lot on 16th St. Discussion followed concerning the difficulty of getting the matter on the radar of colleges, but chance that Donner would meet with us.
#7. Shooting @ 8:30 in the morning on Wednesday, semi automatic weapons.
Concern over the frequency of shootings there, and that particular building (CCSM 1845 17th St) building a neighborhood nuisance. A discussion followed as to a plan for action. Suggestions included having a press conference on site. Landlord ? Who is it. It
was proposed we obtain shooting, crime stats from Don Umber/Police /Neighborhood Watch. Solution to shootings, community needs more police officers.

Suggestion that discussion of a membership drive be added to Sept. Agenda.
Habitat for Humanity Home ownership project on 19th. is something we
should support.

# 3. Financial: Bal. $3,990.00 Average visits on Website is 10 per day 70 odd unique per month. New Membership Josie's Rest. Motion: Use our Website questionnaire for the candidates. Committee: Wes, Jim m/s/p Clyde/Jim 8 Yes. Clyde to write business membership letter. # 10. Public input moved up so School Board Candidate Emily Bloomfield could address board.
# 4. Survey generally validates PNA direction and focus. Stand on ballot issues did not get mandate and issue will remain unresolved.
#5. School Clubs sponsorship. Budget $500.00 We need participants.
#5b. Eddie's Liquor: Wes surveyed corner and gave an overview. Letter will go out to owner and operator as invite to November Board meeting.
#6. Police Dialog. Motion to invite Chief Butts to Oct meeting.

The PNA Announces it's 2nd Annual Scholarship Essay contest. Through hard work, community support, and accessibility to resources we believe that all children can accomplish goals and continue on to higher education.

The PNA will reward one graduating high school senior $500 for the furtherance of their studies. more


Pico Neighborhood Association is working to improve your mobility within Santa Monica. The City of Santa Monica’s “Know Before You Go” program provides weekly updates of City and permitted utility projects within the City’s streets, sidewalks, parks, and other public space that are expected to impact the public for more than one day.
