3. Shell Oil presentation (15 min): Effected parties,
including the City of Santa Monica have varying views
on MTBE clean-up. Shell Oil wants support for "hot
spot" approach. PNA took no action.
4. Financial report, Membership drive(s), Web site update:
Balance of $6900, no new members, website traffic steady,
new articles posted.
5. Progress report: projects to complete (Eddies,
Planting, school clubs): Eddie's project to happen April
12, 3 properties to be completed. Chess club trip and
neighborhood photo shoot to be sponsored.
6. Grant application idea (Peter): Challenge all agencies
that receive City $$ to give to SMMUSD. PNA would forgo
$3000. PNA took no action. Donations to Growing Place's
Dino Fair ($100) and Juneteenth (LaVerne) approved. Don/Matt
Unan
7. Meeting place alternative while Virginia Ave Park is
renovated. LaVerne offered her hair salon. Peter will
call Abbott's Pizza.
8. Next Annual Assembly and Newsletter: Appeal to board
members to write articles. Wes to write on Dino fair and
Laverne on Junetenth.

cost: $180 due in July / $300.00 Chess Club, $245.00 Chamber

PNA memberships but many expire on June 29th, the last
big signup day was the assembly in 2002. Website: 41 visits
per day this month.
4. Progress reports on PNA sponsorships: Growing Place,
planting, neighborhood photo shoot, scholarship idea
Growing Place/Dino Fair Fundraiser sent letter of thanks.
Planting: Jim wants to do corner of Delaware & 19th
Court. Don &Peter will help.
Wes presented an idea to create a $500.00 college scholarship
for Pico residents. Source of funds, criteria, method
of award were discussed. Target January 2004 as start

5. Business Mixer
Savalas presented a Pico area business mixer idea. Target
date is Sept. PNA agrees to $500 (refundable) seed money
if PIO will do the same. m/s/p Wes/LaVerne 8 yes 1 abstention.
6. Open letter regarding priorities/ gunfire
Don and Peter presented a letter to be sent to the City
Council and press regarding recent gunfire incidents.

PNA Announces it's 2nd Annual Scholarship Essay
contest. Through
hard work, community support, and accessibility
to resources we believe that all children can
accomplish goals and continue on to higher education.
The
PNA will reward one graduating high school senior
$500 for the furtherance of their studies. more
Pico
Neighborhood Association is working to improve
your mobility within Santa Monica. The
City of Santa Monicas Know Before You
Go program provides weekly updates
of City and permitted utility projects within the
Citys streets, sidewalks, parks, and other
public space that are expected to impact the public
for more than one day. |

Neighborhood Arts
and Culture
| The
Pico Neighborhood mural (by artist Ann Elizabeth
Thiermann) at the Stewart Street underpass of the
Santa Monica Freeway is listed on Murals of LA web
site. The mural shows the neighborhood's struggle
to remain unified on both sides of the freeway.
