The
crenulated roof line and mosaic welcome mat of the Knights
of Columbus building were saved when Ralph Nahigian remodeled
2101 Pico Blvd. for his plastics business nearly three
decades ago.
Ralph
personally swept up a near empty building in finishing
the move to the new PlasticMart site, east of the neighborhood
on the corner of Pico and Federal.
The
City of Santa Monica bought the property as an expansion
to Virginia Avenue Park. Plans are to reuse the existing
buildings for community program space, a PAL (Police Athletics
League) gym, and park maintenance.
Ralph
has been a great neighbor and asset to us. Thanks for
your PNA support over the years and contribution to the
neighborhood. We wish you luck.
....Wish
us luck too. The City has made many unfulfilled promises
regarding park development, let's hope they can deliver
this time.
