The 21st Annual Assemby of the Pico Neighborhood Association promises to be a great event.

A wonderful, full flavor smorgasbord is being put together for all attendees. Live music will be there from noon to 1.

We will hold a round table discussion about the direction of the neighborhood and the focus of the Association. Bring your ideas, concerns and issues. PNA members can update you on the activities of the past year.

This is a great time to meet new neighbors and say hi to old ones. You're bound to find like-minded individuals with get-something-done-energy to match yours.

Paul De Santis will be conducting a workshop for those who have thought about home ownership, but think it is out of reach. Paul is well versed in Santa Monica ownership issues. Joy Langford, a financial expert, of The Real Estate Syndicate has indicated she will talk.

Topics will include:
Why is condo & home ownership advantageous to your personal wealth
Why is condo & home ownership good for the neighborhood
Facts and figures about purchasing
Banks
HUD
What kind of financial and educational help is out there
What can we do about City policy

We will be voting a new Board of Directors. We have 7 seats open for election. If you would like to be a candidate email Peter Tigler. We will also be taking nominations from the floor. So far, the following people will appear on the Ballot:

Clyde Smith
Cece Bradley
Peter Tigler
Mathew Millen
Tara Zaccagnino
Joe Weichman
Don Gray
LaVerne Ross

Candidate Statements:

Joe Weichman
Relatively, I'm newcomer to the neighborhood. Perhaps you know me, as I ran for College Board in this past election. I continue to be very interested in community issues. I believe strongly in neighborhood groups and their influence on City Hall. The PNA focus of home ownership, true community policing and a clean, respected environment are worthy goals that I care to work on. I feel that I can make a positive contribution and I would like to volunteer my time for the board.

Peter Tigler
I have lived in the Pico neighborhood for over 20 years. I am committed to neighborhood improvement and our voice being heard at City Hall. It is up to us to act when we see City resources flow to other parts of town and when we see that our priorities are not City Council priorities. PNA is a wonderful organization and a perfect vehicle to carry our community message.

Mathew Millen
I am a former VISTA Volunteer and former attorney for the Legal Aid Foundation of Long Beach and the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. I previously served on the Virginia Park Advisory Board and am a 20 year resident of the Pico Neighborhood. My primary goals are the expansion of Virginia Ave Park, development of land already acquired by the City and home ownership opportunities for Pico Neighborhood residents.

Don Gray
Santa Monica's most diverse neighborhood has not been treated with the respect it deserves. As a member of the Board of Directors, I will work for the continued improvement of the Pico Neighborhood, both by contributing to the many efforts of the neighbors, and by making certain the neighborhood receives the fair and equal share of City resources it is entitled to.

Cece Bradley
I have been an active member of PNA for the past 20 years - as a volunteer, as a member, as Chairperson, and currently, as Secretary. PNA's mission is EMPOWERMENT OF PEOPLE. I love my neighborhood. With PNA's help, my neighbors and I secured street lights, organized a Neighborhood Watch, implemented preferential parking, and addressed problems with the homeless & drug dealers. I was part of brainstorming group, that started the Farmers' Market at Pico/Cloverfield. My community is very important to me and PNA has helped make it a better place.
