On
Sat April 19, 2003 PNA volunteers gathered at Eddie's Market
at the corner of Pico Blvd & 20th St to paint and plant
a parking lot wall noted for its graffiti tags and patched
paint.
In
an hour and a half the 50ft wall went from 3 shades of yellow
and gray to a brick red-brown with creeping fig vines planted
in wells cut into the asphalt. The vines will cling to the
wall deterring grafitti and provide a landscape element
to the up-to-now plantless parking lot.
Plants
were purchased with money PNA received from a City of Santa
Monica Neighborhood Matching Fund Grant. Special thanks
to City Maintenance Manager, Kim Braun who was generous
in supplying the paint through the Adopt-A-Block program.
