The
Pico Neighborhood Association announces the
23rd Annual Neighborhood Meeting and Picnic
Saturday,
September 20 11am~2pm
at Edison School, 2425 Kansas Ave.

This
year’s theme is “meet your neighbors." Many
are new to the neighborhood and we thought this would be a
good way to get to know each other. The efforts of the PNA
are the efforts of neighbors working together. The successes
of the PNA are the successes of neighbors working together.
The first step in neighborhood action is knowing your neighbor.
So join us and say hello.
PNA
board elections, overview of the year's events, discussion
of issues and a free picnic lunch are on the agenda.

I have lived in the PNA area for 13 years, and own a home
across from Virginia Park.
1. I have worked with some board members on PNA issues and
participated in discussions for the Virginia Ave Park re-design.2.
I am against OPCC having the building at Clovrfield/Michigan
- and want this to be used for AFFORDABLE HOUSING - NOT OPCC.
The OPCC "project" will cost the city $10 million
now, and "rent free for 50 years" will cost the
city another $20 million- giving a total cost now of $30 million.
Litigation to stop OPCC may be necessary if SM Council approves
the lease on 9/23/03. 3. I have an engineering degree from
M.I.T. and a law degree from N.Y.U.

I have served on the PNA Board for 22 years. I have been
a President for 6 years. Currently I am the Secretary. I believe
in her purpose to share knowledge, with the community,
and empower my neighbors. .. I have learned many good things
by being a part of PNA which I have shared with my friends. I
have a large network of extended family, as I am a Caregiver.
I'm a mother of three children, and a grandmother, and soon
to be a great grandmother. I llike my neighborhood. I've
lived here for 34 years.

A ten year resident of Santa Monica and past board member
of Mid-Cities Neighbors, I teach at McKinley Elementary School
and serve as Vice President and Bargaining Chair for SMMCTA.
I have also served on the Pico Improvement Organization for
the past two years. Father of two young sons, I am concerned
with making our neighborhoods safer, stronger, more livable
and better respected. Abating traffic and graffiti will be
two top priorities for me.

Our family of four lives on Urban Ave. We moved into the neighborhood
three years ago, and are pleased with the improvements our
small neighborhood group (Pico Terrace) and neighborhood watch
have made in that short period of time. I have taught in public
schools for nearly two decades, and served a term as a board
member for Mid-Cities Neighbors. I look forward to working
with my neighbors to continue to improve all our neighborhoods.

I have lived in the Pico neighborhood for 25 years. My wife
and I have saved an older house and raised our kids in that
home. I have been involved with the PNA for over a decade.
I agree with the recent efforts and focus of the PNA. The
need to galvanize city hall and the residents of Santa Monica
on the physical improvements needed in the neighborhood, the
need to shift to home ownership as a housing priority, the
need to bring the full resources of the city to address youth
violence are things we must pursue.

I have enjoyed serving several terms on the PNA’s Board
of Directors, and working with the other board members and
residents to improve the quality of life for the residents
here. At the same time, I know there is much to be done. I
would like the chance to continue our ongoing efforts, as
well as expand the PNA’s influence on citywide issues
affecting our residents. I appreciate your past support and
ask for the opportunity to serve you for another term.

Three years ago I began a campaign to get permit parking.
This led me to meet many of my neighbors & become enlightened
about neighborhood concerns. I became block captain, organized
neighborhood meetings, created a neighborhood website, email
database, and phone tree. I've also been publishing a neighborhood
newsletter. I was involved in recent PNA issues (such as OPCC
& drunk tank) which have been a wake up call to area residents.
People who had "given up" are now energized
by seeing that change is possible. It's an exciting time to
be in the Pico Neighborhood! And we're just getting started...
