Graffiti
Removal Day October 20, 2001

Eighty-six
neighbors, city residents and area activists gathered at Virginia
Ave Park on Sat morning (Oct 20) to pick up litter and paint
out graffiti as they fanned through the Pico neighborhood.
This
effort was a pilot program sponsored by the City of Santa
Monica and the PNA. The City supplied all clean up materials
and city crews chaperoned the volunteers through preplanned
routes. Huge buffet tables for breakfast and lunch were provided
by area businesses - Bud's, Subway, Pizza Hut and others.
Souvenir tee shirts were given to everybody. PNA issued community
service certificates to all the middle school volunteers.
Many thanks to the GreenTeam, Luis Ramirez and his John Adams
Mid Sch kids, City employees who volunteered, and Pico neighborhood
residents who rolled up their sleeves and pitched in. Special
thanks to the Maintenance Dept of the City of Santa Monica
for leading a friendly and a productive day.
City
TV film crews were there for the day and a segment featuring
the event will air soon.
